A Case of Sheehan´s Syndrome

Abstract
|
|
|
The authors experienced a case of Sheehan´s Syndrome. The patient had a typical history of severe postpartum hemorrhage associated with an episode of shock prior to the onset of this illness. Clinical pictures revealed amenorrhea, asthenia, weight loss, loss of axillary and pubic hairs, atrophy of breasts and :genitalia, decreased libido, intolerance to cold, nervous irritability, and so on. Laboratory data disclosed the followings: reduced basal metabolic rate, decreased thyroidal I 131 uptake, low fasting blood sugar level with a flat glucose tolerance curve and, lowered excretiorn levels of urinary 17-ketosteroids, 17-hydroxycorticosteroids and gonadotropin.
With the emphasis on Ob-Gyn. field some literatures of Sheehan´s Syndrome were briefly discussed.
